Freedom Bound

FB_softcover_copy

And my next book is… Freedom Bound, written and drawn by myself, with brilliant ink and colouring assistance from Shazleen Khan and lettering by Robin Jones, in association with University of Glasgow researchers, Professor Simon Newman and Nelson Mundell, edited by Sha Nazir and published by BHP books.

Freedom Bound follows the stories of Ann, Jamie and Joseph, three young enslaved people as they escape their masters in 18th Century Scotland. All of their fact-based stories have come to light following recent research carried out by the University of Glasgow’s Runaway Slaves in Britain project.

Twelve thousand copies are being printed and distributed for free to every Scottish school and the book also contains notes and study guides drawn from Simon and Nelson’s original research material. But you can also purchase copies directly through the BHP website now, or from all decent comic and book shops.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be posting some original sketches, pencils and pages.

I’ll also be signing copies of Freedom Bound at the BHP booth N729 this Saturday 27th October at the forthcoming MCM London Comic Con from 1pm. See you then?!

Incognegro Renaissance

IncRen_book_lr

You wait all this time for a book by Warren Pleece (you do, don’t you?!) and then two come along at the same time!

First off, collecting the recent Berger Books/ Dark Horse prequel series Incognegro Renaissance, written by Mat Johnson, edited by Karen Berger, designed by Richard Bruning and drawn by me, comes this little beaut.

Incognegro Renaissance, set during the Harlem Renaissance several years before the original Incognegro A Graphic Mystery, follows the adventures of cub reporter Zane Pinchback as he passes as white for the first time to investigate the suspicious death of black writer, Xavier Mignon.

As relevant and as page-turning as the original, you can get hold of a copy from all decent comic and book shops now, or online via the Dark Horse website here.

The Ballad of Franklin Bonisteel – Free Comic Book Day

As part of this Saturday’s Free Comic Book Day, May 6th, comes this little gem, The Ballad of Franklin Bonisteel, from my old Life Sucks partner, Gabe Soria, drawn by me for Z2 comics. Not only is this a one-off companion piece to Gabe’s new Murder Ballad series, but it also comes with a free download link to an exclusive cover of Leadbelly’s ‘In the Pines’ by the Black Keys front man, Dan Auerbach and Robert Finley. If you like your Noir 70s and quirky, check it out. It’s bloody free!

Surgeon X Trial and Error

To coincide with the digital release of my work on Sara Kenney‘s Surgeon X short story, Trail and Error, published by Image Comics and backed by the Royal Society of Chemistry, I’ll be taking part in a Facebook Live event tomorrow, Wednesday May 3rd with writer, Sara and Chemical Scientist, Jess Healy from 15.00 PM.

I’ll be drawing some of the characters from the story during the broadcast and there’ll be a chance for interested viewers to win the original artwork after a Q and A.

More details here.

You can buy a copy of Trail and Error right now from Comixology

Doctor Who the 12th Doctor- The Boy with the Displaced Smile

I’m breaking with several months of blog silence (pardon me!) by posting a ton of info about some of my new and upcoming releases. This week sees the release of my one-off 12th Doctor Doctor Who story, written by very talented James Peaty, coloured by the peeps at Hi-Fi and published by Titan Comics. More info here.

alby_blueskies

Yes, the time has finally come to wave the old codger goodbye (or is it au revoir? Or is it g’day?!) with the latest and last episode of ongoing (not anymore) street-sage melodrama, Alby Figgs. Episode 100 of the seemingly never ending saga is finally here!

Take to the ‘Blue Skies’ with the Albster for one last trip right here http://wp.me/p2xlpi-80

I’d like to thank everyone of you for enjoying (?!), putting up with/ supporting my intermitent frivolities and wish you a safe and positive new year despite the shite-load of crap currently being shovelled onto human and animal kind at the mo.

Look out for new regular strips coming in the new year via warrenpleece.com and pleecebrothers.com.
