Incognegro Renaissance

You wait all this time for a book by Warren Pleece (you do, don’t you?!) and then two come along at the same time!

First off, collecting the recent Berger Books/ Dark Horse prequel series Incognegro Renaissance, written by Mat Johnson, edited by Karen Berger, designed by Richard Bruning and drawn by me, comes this little beaut.

Incognegro Renaissance, set during the Harlem Renaissance several years before the original Incognegro A Graphic Mystery, follows the adventures of cub reporter Zane Pinchback as he passes as white for the first time to investigate the suspicious death of black writer, Xavier Mignon.

As relevant and as page-turning as the original, you can get hold of a copy from all decent comic and book shops now, or online via the Dark Horse website here.

Incognegro: Renaissance parts 2 and 3

In advance of the imminent release of Incognegro Renaissance issue 4 next week, I thought I’d post some belated process drawings of the covers for issue s 2 and 3, both of which are out now, available from Berger Books/ Dark Horse Comics and in all good comic shops, written by the ever smokin’ Mat Johnson and drawn and greyed up by moi! Follow the links below to see a preview of the interior art from each page-turning episode…

Out today in all good comic stores, the brand new Incognegro Renaissance, a 5 part prequel to the recently reprinted Incognegro graphic novel, once again written by Mat Johnson and drawn by me. It’s also one of the first of four new mini-series to come from Karen Berger’s new Dark Horse Comics imprint, Berger Books.

There’s been a lot of reviews and interviews for both the new series and the original book recently, but here’s a link to the most recent from yesterday’s Comics Beat feature that also includes several preview pages from the story.

I’ll be posting soon about the inspiration for the cover design for Renaissance, but in the meantime, I’ve included a couple of versions of the first cover, from pencils to inks.

Really pleased that this book has finally got back into print and really pleased to be have been able to enhance the original artwork for the new edition. On top of that, I’m working again with the great Karen Berger as senior editor of Berger Books and Richard Bruning on design duties for the first time since working at Vertigo. The book is

Tomorrow also sees the release of the new 5 part prequel series, Incognegro: Renaissance once again written by Mat and drawn by me, timed to coincide with the original reprint. More on that tomorrow. In the meantime, here’s some sample stages of the new cover to Graphic Mystery.
